How does gematria work

gematria is a system of assigning numerical values to words or sentences that dates back to ancient Hebrew and Greek texts. It is the study of numbers, the alphabet, and their symbolic meanings which can be applied to everyday life. Though gematria has largely been used as a Jewish mystical practice, it has also been adopted by modern-day occultists and kabbalists.

In gematria, each letter of the alphabet corresponds to a number – usually in Eastern systems like Hebrew and Greek, letters are assigned values from 1-9 while in Western systems like English, they range from 1-26. It is believed that when words with similar meanings are spelled out using this method, they will often have the same numerical value when all the letter's numeric equivalents are added up. For instance, if you take the word "God" (in English) its total numeric value is 26 (g=7 + o=15 + d=4). In Hebrew or Greek this would look much different; using their assigned values the word 'God' would be worth 3 (gimel=3).

The most important aspect of Gematria is finding connections between words with similar meanings. For example, if two words both have a numerical total of 26 that could indicate a deeper correlation between them. Kabbalists believe that all knowledge concealed within sacred texts can be revealed through gematria and unlocking these hidden messages is thought to provide insight into God's will for individuals or even humanity as a whole.

Ultimately, there isn't one definitive interpretation for any given set of numbers found through Gematria so it can interpreted differently depending on individual beliefs or experiences with the system. Those looking to use gematria should not rely solely on arbitrary number values as these can be misleading; rather they should search for potential connections between words or ideas based on an understanding of each phrase within its cultural and spiritual context. By doing so they can gain insight into deeper knowledge awaiting discovery through Gematria's symbolic power
